Gjendeosen is a busy meeting point at the gateway to Jotunheimen national park.

Surrounded by wild mountains, Gjende is known as the most beautiful lake in Jotunheimen. At the western end is Gjendebu, on the northern side Memurubu and at the eastern end Gjendesheim. In the summer, there is a boat service between these three places.

At Gjendeosen, a new service building has been established, containing a café, toilets, and an information stand. Necessary traffic improvements have also been made here. The Gjende ferry boat now has a new quay and a functional storage facility for the boat and the tourism companies of Memurubu and Gjendebu. The former trailhead car park at Lake Gjende has been moved to a larger parking area with toilet facilities and bicycle parking at Reinsvangen.

Through the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's work with Norwegian Scenic Routes, the tourism icon of Gjende has been given a substantial makeover. Gjende now presents itself as a complete mountain terminal for the many thousands of visitors from home and abroad.
