Vøringsfossen is one of Norway’s best known tourist attractions.

The dramatic transition between the fiord and the mountain plateau makes quite an impression. Vast quantities of water here plunge 182 metres down from the Hardangervidda plateau to the Måbødalen valley. The waterfall can be very loud, especially when discharge is high.

The entire facility consists of more than one kilometre of well-secured paths. Several viewpoints have been established, as well as large and small bridges, two service buildings and spacious parking areas. One of the car parks has charging facilities for electric cars. The upper area at Fossli and the lower plateau at Fossatromma are connected by the spectacular step bridge over the river Bjoreio and the old pack road.

Through the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's work with Norwegian Scenic Routes, the tourism icon of Vøringsfossen has been given a substantial makeover. Now, visitors can experience the waterfall and Måbødalen from new perspectives on safe paths and viewing platforms.

Parts of the attraction are closed in winter.
